A volunteer-led association helping animals affected by abandonment or mistreatment through rescue support, veterinary care, sterilisation, adoption and public awareness.

More ways to help
Not every local helper has the same legal role. The labels below distinguish volunteering, public service and conservation.
Volunteer group
A volunteer initiative improving daily life and adoption visibility for dogs and cats connected with Mafra’s public shelter.
Official municipal service
Mafra’s official animal collection centre. It handles municipal collection and adoption functions and coordinates the local CED cat-colony programme with Anonimais.
Wildlife conservation association
A national conservation association whose Iberian Wolf Recovery Centre is based in Gradil. The sanctuary cares for wolves unable to live in the wild and supports research and education.
Before you act
An association is not a guaranteed collection service. Explain where the animal is, its apparent condition, whether it is safe and what temporary help you can provide. Send photographs when requested and do not put people or animals at risk.

Follow the Municipality of Mafra’s current stray-animal procedure. Its official page says to contact the GNR/NPA so the animal and possible owner can be identified; if no owner is identified, municipal collection to CROAMM can be arranged.
Contact the organisation first. Local associations and foster networks have limited, changing capacity and may not have a public reception point.
The Municipality of Mafra says its capture–sterilise–return (CED) programme operates through a protocol with Anonimais. Submit current requests through the municipal contact route.
CROAMM and several associations publish animals for adoption. Ask about identification, vaccination, sterilisation, temperament and the adoption agreement before committing.
The sources reviewed describe Ericeira Paws as a volunteer initiative. This directory labels it as a volunteer group rather than claiming formal association status.
